Web 2.0 is nowadays used by almost all websites, either for the logos or the full template. It is now the main attraction of the website, after all, who would be interested in dull websites? So I will teach you how to create a basic, simple but stunning Web 2.0 logos. In another chapter to be posted just in a few hours, I will discuss how to choose the right color for a web 2.0 logo.

Note : For all tutorials, I am using Adobe Photoshop CS3 so functions may vary from version to version. Also, my operating system is Microsoft Vista so mac users should refer Ctrl as Command.

Final Image after the end of the tutorial should look like this :

1-> Open Adobe Photoshop and then create a new file (Ctrl + N). For this tutorial, I am using 700px as Width and 500px as Length. You may select your own depending on your preferences and space on website.

2-> Now fill the background layer with Black (Press G on the Keyboard for the Paint Bucket Tool and make sure your background color is set to black. Then click on the screen).

3-> Now for the logo, select a font depending on the theme. My favourite ones are Baar Zeitgeist and Cocon. Select Font Colors that look attractive and bright. As a better effect, I am writing ‘TechYou’ on a different layer and ‘i’ on a different layer with different fonts and colors so that I can use both my favourite fonts.

4-> After typing the text you need, go to Layer >> Layer Style >> Blending Options and use the settings given in the screenshots below. Since I am using 2 fonts on seperate layers, I have given different settings (like light pink outer glow for the pink text and light blue for the blue). The screenshot only shows blending options for the pink layer. For the blue layer, all settings are same except the color for inner and outer glow. (Light Blue – #2175ff)

5-> Now merge the text layers (in case you have made 2 different text layers) and then duplicate it (Ctrl+J). In case you have all the text on 1 layer, just duplicate it and remove the Layer Styles (Right Click the layer in the layer menu and select Clear Layer Styles for the duplicated layer only).

6->Now select the duplicated layer and invert it. (Edit >> Transform >> Flip Vertical). Now Press Ctrl + Down Arrow and shift it such that it looks like a reflection. Apply a layer mask to the layer. Now select the gradient tool and then the follow the screenshot.

7-> In the layer menu, select the duplicated layer but not the layer mask. (The box on the left side). Now go to Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur and give a blur of 1px. This will make it look like a real reflection.

8-> Now comes the Web 2.0 part. Press Ctrl and at the same time click on the layer where you have the main text. You can see that it gets selected in the main canvas. Now select the Elliptical Marquee Tool and use the settings in the screenshot. Then select a circle such that the top part of the text is selected.

9-> Now press Ctrl + Shift + N and create a new layer. Make sure that some part of the text is selected. Now change your background color to white and press Ctrl + Backspace. This will make the top part of the text white. Press Ctrl + D to deselect and change the opacity of the layer to 10-12%.

11-> Here is how the final image should look. I have just added a cute little RSS Feed icon on the top. Do comment in case you liked it or have any problems. Even a small ‘Thanks’ will motivate us more for such tutorials.

Steps  :

1. Open Photoshop and create a new document. I took the size as 1024*768 px. Create a new layer open the Layer Styles. Select Gradient Overlay and choose the 2 colours as Black and Dark Blue. (I used #273f6c). Remember that blue should be the inner colour and black the outer. Use Gradient Style as Radial.

2. Create a new layer and fill it with Black.

3. Now select Black as foreground colour and Grey as background colour. Now navigate to Filters -> Render -> Fibre. Set 36 for Variance and 1 for Strength.

4. Now go to Filter -> Blur -> Motion Blur and select the angle as 90 and distance as 999.

5. Now go to Layer Styles and select Gradient Overlay. Set the blending mode to Overlay. Change the colors to Rainbow Colors. In this tutorial, I have taken just 5 rainbow colours but you can use your creativity and use any color combination. Note that in the final image posted above, I have taken all the 7 colors of the rainbow.

6. Now open the Lasso Tool and set the feather to 30px. Make a selection of any shape. Now move the layer with black and blue colour above this rainbow layer and press delete.

7. Hey, your image is done. Now, you can experiment and make any changes you want. You can either use this as a wallpaper. Just play around with filters and make a new creation.

I have got many complaints from friends and other people online that Internet Explorer is very slow. So if you are one of those frustrated guys out there, just follow the following tweak and who knows, it might make up your mind from not shifting to another browser.

Open RUN (XP users have the option in the Start Menu, Vista users just type RUN in the search) and type REGEDIT in the box provided.

Now navigate to the following directory : HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Restrictions

Create A New DWORD Value Names ‘x’ (See Complete List Of Values Of ‘x’ Below) And Modify Its Value To 1 To Enable It And 0 To Disable It.

NoBrowserClose:Disable The Option Of OF Closing IE.
NoBrowserContextMenu:Disable Right-Click Context Menu.
NoBrowserOptions:Disable The Tools/Internet Options Menu.
NobrowserSaveAs:Disable The Abilty To Save As.
NoFavourites:Disable The Favourites.
NoFileNew:Disable The File/New Command.
NoFileOpen:Disable The File/Open Command.
NoFindFiles:Disable The Find Files Command.
NoSelectDownloadDir:Disable The Option Of Selecting A Download Directory.
NoTheatere Mode:Disable The Full Screen View Option.

If you disable the features you never use, I bet that it will make your experience of using IE better.

Today in this lengthy sort of post which I am gonna write below, I will teach you how to set up  a website, get loads of traffic and earn money, step by step! In this what I will write, I can guarantee that even the people who aren’t used to this stuff will follow it quite simply.

Setting up a website :

Setting up a website can be simple as well as tedious, the way you look at it. Follow my steps and you are going to have a brand new site for yourself within a few minutes. If you think that you need the most simplest and the non-fussiest way of setting up a website, open up a new tab or window and gobto Blogger or Wordpress. If you want to try something new, just go to google and search for blogging but I still suggest you’ll use one of the above.

If you select Blogger, then just go the home page, sign in with your Google account (the one you use for Gmail, Orkut, etc.) and create a new blog. Now configure your settings and you are ready to blog.

Now, if you didn’t like Blogger (It’s too simple, not much of themes, no plugins, blah blah), use Wordpress. Believe me, if you use Wordpress, you won’t use anything else, ever! This website, Techaddicts, is fully based on Wordpress and ‘I am lovin’ it’. Now, Wordpress also has two options:

-> Go to Wordpress, sign up and set up a blog in minutes (not recommended because you can’t add much themes, and put Adsense which converts to no earning).

-> Download Wordpress, and host it on any free/paid hosting site (in details below). It will be in a .zip format. Please don’t extract it.

Hosting:

In case you have downloaded Wordpress, this paragraph is for you, or else you may skip it. Now, to get a free hosting, just go to Google and search for free or premium hosting, as per your budget. (I am using free hosting and there is not much of a difference). But those who’ll are sure that their site will be a hit should go for premium hosting. (Premium starts from $2 and can go upto $20 where you even get a dedicated server). Here is the comparison of some of the free webhosts, in case you’ll wanna check. Once you register to a host (preferably supporting Vista Panel), copy all your details to a notepad file (your username, your password, your FTP username and the nameservers). Now, just download this tool FileZilla, put in your FTP settings (which you will get once you login to your Vista Panel of your host). The next part will be done afterwards,  now we have to go for a domain!

Domain:

Domains are of two types, free and top level domains. To get a free domain, just go to Co.cc or dot.tk (Preference to 1^st), register there and grab up any domain available. If you intend to buy a premium domain, go to Name or GoDaddy check out the domain you want (.com starts from $8.99 while .info is for jus $0.95). Once you purchase a domain or grab one for free, go to the settings page. There you will find a tab called nameservers. If there are any nameservers included, just remove it and add the ones of your host (It’s generally NS1.*****.com and NS2.*****.com where ***** refers to your host name). Now, go to your Vista Panel and under the Domains Tab, click on Addon Domains and add the domain you just purchased or grabbed for free. Just  scroll down on that page and you will also get the nameservers of the website.

Setting Up Your Website:

Setting up a website is very simple if you follow my steps. Open up FileZilla which you just downloaded, give in your FTP settings and click Connect. Now, you can see the file manager of your site. Just go to the name of your website in the lower right box and go inside HtDocs. Here, upload the Wordpress zip file which was earlier downloaded.  Now, just login to your cPanel, go to File Manager and then navigate to the folder where you uploaded the zip file. Now, just extract it there.

Setting Up A Database:

You are almost done creating your blog. All that is remaining is configuring your blog. So just login to your Vista Panel and go to MySQL databases. Click on Create New. Give any name for the database. The database name will be something in this format:

The username for your Vista Panel_Database Name.

Example (My database) : x07x_3666752_itechyou.com

Configuring and Running Your Website :

Now just go to the URL of your blog, it will give an error stating that the blog is not configured. Don’t worry, just use these and you are ready to go:

Database Name : As mentioned above

Username : Your cPanel username

Password : Your cPanel password

Local Host : You will get this data on the left side of your Vista Panel

Your website is now configured. Just go to your admin panel and check out the wonders of Wordpress!
