If you are one of those who loves chatting and making friends online, there are a few things that you need to be careful about in these days of cyber crime. With hacking becoming a rampant problem, your past chats can reveal a lot of your personal details. To ensure that you don’t fall into any such trap try to keep the following points in mind.

• Never Reveal Your Financial Details

You could be chatting online about money matters, but ensure that you never reveal any money related details. Be it your account number, credit/debit card number or your PIN umber, do not reveal these things on chat.

• Don’t Add Just About Anyone To Your List

Don’a add people in your chat list just to have a long list of friends. Know the person a bit before adding him/her. Check out the mutual friends if possible and get details about the “to-be friend” before adding.

• Be Careful In Chat Rooms

Chat rooms are one of the best places to interact with people around the world. But do understand that there are strangers lurking around there so you gotta be careful and think twice on what you are saying.

• Be Polite But Not Over-Friendly

If someone pings you, it’s customary to say “Hi!” and have a small chat with them. But make sure you don’t get over-friendly. Don’t promise to meet them or be their best buddy. If someone suggests you to meet him/her in the first chat itself, you do have to block button to your rescue

• Don’t Use Profanities

While gossiping online is very much in, don’t use profanities when in a chat room. Saying nasty things about other people is known as “flaming” in cyberspace. You can be blocked from further discussions in the chat due to such reasons.

• Watch What You Say

Some organisations get experts to keep a tab on their employees chats. Maybe it’s not a good idea to gossip about office politics or back-stabbing your boss. Keep it for conversations over a coffee with friends at some cafe.

• No Expectations

The basic rule of chatting is that don’t expect anything if you are chatting with a stranger. You don’t know the person on the other end, so don’t expect him/her to be funny, witty or sensitive. The conversation might lead to a friendship or a fight. Don’t get hurt if someone doesn’t want to be your friend and ignores you or blocks you. Be open minded and chat with the people who accepted you as a friend

I am sure many of you might have gone though the situation when you take a lot of images and when you try uploading to the internet for sharing, you find that they were taken at a very high resolution and uploading is going to take ages. So you have the option of opening all images, resizing which is simply time waste if nothing else.

Instead of using the basic image editing program, how about try something where you can drop your bunch of files, select common settings and just start the process? You would say that’s good but not worth paying. So the best thing here is that it is free

MODI (the software) is a non-setup program. So just download the exe file from here and you are all ready to go. To run the program, just locate the executable file from the folder.

At the top of the screen, you can drag and drop your images into the gray area which works pretty fine. Enabling quick view will show your image in a small thumbnail when you hover above it.

After you have selected the images, click on Add Modifier button to select settings for the images to be edited/resized.

In the modifier area, you have a drop down menu with several options. For each choice you need for your image, you have to click the Add button at the bottom. This will create an entry in the main MODI screen.

Let’s try making the size of the image half the original size. To do this, select the resize from the menu. Now in the box that follows, select 50% as Max Height/Width. Make sure you click Add which is at the bottom.

Similarly, you can put a watermark or sharpen/blur the image as I have done in the following screenshots.

Once you have made all your settings and ready to convert, go back to the main screen of MODI where you will see a list of modifiers which you selected. If you want to remove any effect, just click remove which is on the right. In case you want to preview the image, click on Preview Result. If everything is fine, select one of the writers from the low left corner.

If you want to try some advanced settings, click the configure button. I have done some settings for my convenience.

Now that you have done everything, go to the main menu and start the processing. After some time, depending on the speed of your computer, it will show that the conversion/modification was done to your images. If you want to use the same settings for your future editing, do click on the Save As Preset button and give it some name.

I have seen many people complaining that they worked hard for many hours on making a good site but they don’t seem to get crawled by search engines. Sometimes, the wrong pages that shouldn’t get crawled, get crawled and then you don’t get many referrals via search engines. To let your sincere effort not go waste, I have a great and easy trick with me.

When any search engine crawls your website, the first thing it searches for is robot.txt.

What is robot.txt?

It is a text file that mentions the pages that the search engine should crawl or skip. If you have your website set up on Wordpress (like mine), the search engine has the permission to crawl all your pages, from admin.php to login.php and so on.

How to set-up robots.txt?

In case you are using a website based on wordpress, just download this.

If you aren’t, just download this text file (already ready, just download) from here.

Now, just upload this text file to the main site database using any FTP client or File Manager from the cPanel.

Done, now what do I do?

Almost done, just register your website here to get crawled by Google and here to get crawled by all other seach engines.

Now, wait for a couple of days while the search engines do their jobs. Once you start getting traffic, enjoy it.

One of the best features that was introduced along with Windows XP was the Hibernation Mode. It becam an instant hit with millions of users who switched from shutting down PC’s to using the Hibernating mode. The best benefit of this is that the PC starts within a few seconds and so many people MISTAKE that it is a replecant to Shut Down.

Even I did the same and the following are the consequences:

I was introduced to this hibernation about 4 yrs back. I just loved it and very soon shutdown was replaced by hibernation. I never used to shut down PC (it used to happen sometimes automatically) as electricity would be cut. But after some months, the time to come out of hibernation started increasing and the games I played started lagging, PC used to get hanged quite often. I asked in a few forums and all the fingers pionted towards hibernation. Then, it became worser and worser and a day came when I had to format my PC and reinstall my Windows.

Now, coming to the point, here is the difference between the 3:

Stand By : Stand By puts the computer in the low power state so that you can quickly return to your work which you had left half completed. It just puts your computer in a low power state. A device, scheduled task or any movement in the PC may wake it up unexpectedly.

Hibernate : Hibernating saves your work to your HDD in a temp location so that you can resume your work from the point where you left it. There is proof that always hibernating the PC causes it to lag and at the end, you will be the one to suffer.

Shut Down : Shut down is like complete hibernation. Though it takes time to start again, it is the safest. A PC has to be successfully shut down atleast 0nce in 2 days so that all the processes are ended properly and your PC gets a complete nap. The difference between hibernation and shut down is the same as the difference between a nap and a sound sleep.

Hence, my suggestion is that you follow th following table :

Between 1-6 hours – Use Stand By

Between 6-24 hours – Use Hibernate

More than 24 hours – Use Shut Down
