Internet Explorer (IE) is the king of all browsers. It has an amazing market share of around 70% which should be highly appriciated because it has stood through all kinds of bad weather. But due to the rise of browsers like Chrome and Firefox, regular clients are slowly but steadily shifting from IE to these browsers. So if Microsoft has to overcome this threat, they must sure do serious changes to their browser. Here are a few of my own suggestions :

1. Change the appearence : Microsoft is sticking to the same old look of its which should be urgently improved. Users should get the rights to alter the look by adding themes, plugins and other widgets. Firefox (FF) is one of the browsers that has a good set of themes. Also, IE should launch icon packs so that the common users will get a change. In one sentence, it is called “Bad CSS Rendering”.

2. Allow Addons : This is the main reason why people choose FF over IE, addons. They make you feel you are into another world just by these plugins. As on this day, there are more than 5000 plugins/addons in every gerne. These plugins can go simple things from allowing you to use Javascripts to knowing where the site is hosted. It makes the best better. The plugin that helps the most are those that block all ads from a website so that you get one of the features of a premium member.

3. Allowing GreaseMonkey : There are more than 50000 scripts on the whole internet that allow you to do almost anything. I personally use around 10 of these scripts for Orkut and personal use and once you start using it, you will never feel like quitting that browser.

4. Clean And Simple : Internet Explorer and Firefox both sometimes seem like the inside view of the pilot’s cabin. Full of icons on the task-bar. Nah, nobody will prefer that unless he is a net nerd and uses all of them daily. I would love the clean look of Google Chrome and so would you. It just seems like a no-nonsense browser with just a tab to type URL and one for switching tabs.

5. Speed : Speed is the main reasons why people normally change their ISP’s. But they don’t know that they might be suffering just because they are using Internet Explorer. Come on, there would be nobody in this whole world who would not need better speeds. Man is surely greedy, atleast for speed isssues. In today’s market, Safari and Opera have the top place for speed, Google comes second (though the speed while downloading still sucks), then comes IE and last FF.

6. Uninstall IE : This is a biased world and IE further-more proves it. 95% of the world uses Microsoft and IE comes pre-installed to them. They generally start using it and then never shift from it, even if they like other browsers. So, this is the main reason why IE is ruling the browser war. I sincerely hope Microsoft gives an option to uninstall ASAP so that I can have a peace of mind atleast.

If any Mircosoft employee is reading this, I sicerely request you to please either add the 1st 5 of the above listed features or if it is not possible, then the 6th one. Also, check out this graph I found on the net. If any Mozilla guy is reading this, please reduce the booting time because not anyone has a PC with 4GB RAM. Peace to all.

The basic thing needed for running Internet are browsers. Internet and browsers are a team, like Romeo and Juliet. When you go for a PC, you get Internet Explorer added, from the Microsoft’s stable. If you go for a Mac, you get Safari. People start using it and get accustomed to it very soon. Then, they seldom change the browsers. In fact, some people don’t even update them for the fear of losing their control over the browser. Today, in this small post, I will tell you which browsers you can opt for just in case you are looking for a ‘change’.

1. Mozilla Firefox

Intro : Since the so called “Browser Wars” came to an end, Firefox (FF) is on the top of the charts of alternate browsers. The flagship product of Mozilla has been liked by all the users who switched to it. One of the best things of FF is that you can customize the way you want. Add a few themes, change the icons, throw in some GreaseMonkey scripts and voila!, you just got a new browser. FF traces its lineage back to the original Netscape browser. Firefox was designed for simplicity, security and the feature to make it customizable as there are thousands of extensions available. It also has its own mail, the Mozilla Thunderbird. All these applications are open source.

2. Opera

Intro : Opera is another browser that has managed to weather the “Browser Wars” since its release in 1996. This browser should get credits for its constant innovation which has evolved this into a mighty powerhouse. Users prefer Opera because of its fast response time and amazing speed. This browser is now a full-fledged internet suite with e-mail, web, news and with a treasure box full of features for basic as well as experienced ones. Opera has now started attracting the mobile users by launching Opera Mini. It can be used on any phone that supports Java. The good thing is that nowadays the basic phones support Java.

3. Safari from Apple

Intro : Apple stunned the whole internet world in 2003 by announcing the launch of their browser Safari for Mac. Mac users were enthralled by it. The downloads of Internet Explorer plunged down so much that Microsoft stopped developing IE for Mac. Safari is famous for its speed and elegance. It is now the default browser of Mac. From version 3.0 onwards, they started giving free downloads of Safari for Windows users. It is also the web browser that is supported by iPhones and iPod Touch.

4. Google Chrome

Intro : Google introduced Chrome for the Windows users in 2008 and from then, it has got an ever increasing fan following. They have followed a good and useful mantra : Keep it simple, keep it fast. It has the fastest loading time on my PC and it very well designed. It does the essentials the best way. Chrome uses WebKit engine like Safari and is the default browser on Android powered cells. At this time, Chrome is only available for Windows, but Mac and Linux versions are planned.
