We must have found ourselves in this situation at least once when we purchased a new PC (or for that matter, formatted the old one) and don’t remember the basic softwares we must have on our PC. If you think you fall into this category quite often, then don’t worry as I will help you with a softwares that you really need on the computer.

1> Antivirus

Lets start with the most practical software in today’s world, the anti-virus. If you don’t have it, you will find yourself formatting or restoring the PC every now and then. So to avoid all this goof-up, the basic thing we need is an anti-virus. Now, you do get free and premium anti-viruses. Well, I advise you’ll to go with the paid one. Not only they are updated more frequently, they also have a hell-lotta features more as compared to the free ones. Choose the free one if you are on a shoestring budget.

A great tool to keep your PC clean from useless files that clutter your HDD. Just 3 MB in size, this small dynamite is a great software that saves you from the headache of manually deleting useless files. This is a free software, so download it guys

3-> Browsers :

Well, though we get Internet Explorer bundled along with every Microsoft OS, there is some reason why we geeks hate it. Therefore, what we need is a better browser. IMHO, I suggest Chrome. I am using Chrome since the day it was launched for public, and as McDonalds says, “I’m Loving It”. Clean looks, less memory consumption and quickest browser are the features that tilts the favour towards Chrome. If you are a developer, I suggest FireFox. Infact, FireFox can be a better browser than Chrome if they fix the memory consumption a bit.

4-> Media Player

Love watching movies or hearing music for hours together? Then you must have a media player in your possession. Well, the market is flooded with many players and selecting a good one is very difficult. From the tried and tested ones, I feel that VLC Players is one of the best ones available now. If you want to try another one for movies, I suggest KMPlayer. This player can play almost all kinds of extensions available, even the ones that you have never heard of. For music maniacs, I suggest either MediaMonkey or WinAmp, as per their preferences.

5-> Driver Updates

Getting bored to search for updates of all your hardwares? Well, don’t worry since we have the ultimate solution for you.  Purchase Driver Genius Professional Edition and never think about the updates. All you need to do is run the software and it will search for the updates required and install them, as simple as that

6-> Download Managers

When you basically download something, it is downloaded as a whole file. When you download the same thing with a download manager, it automatically get divided into fragments and the manager downloads it. This ensures that you have a quicker download. Well, the 2 leaders in this segment are DAP (Download Accelerator Plus) and IDM (Internet Download Manager). Well, I prefer the latter one as it gives me 4-5 kbps more than the DAP. Well use whatever you prefer since both are really awesome

Hello readers! I had made a tutorial for the same sometime back but many people complained that it was a bit hard and they felt it impossible. So I have come to their rescue and now will teach you’ll how to create a simple site with Wordpress installed in it. Hopefully, it will solve your doubts too. Also, this time I will be giving screenshots too. So enjoy guys!

Domain :

In very simple terms, domain is the address of your website. So while choosing a domain, be sure to have a one people will tend to remember. Try to avoid numerals and hyphens in your URL, it will be more difficult to remember. Now, there are primarily 3 types of domains;

1. Top Level Domain (TLD) (Paid)

A Top Level Domain (TLD) is the highest level of domains available. These are paid domains and can be purchased from registrars. They have a better SEO (Search Engine Optimization) than the other domains and are generally prefered for good websites. Buying a domain reflects that it is a worthwhile site and naturally, you will get better traffic than others. For purchasing one, just head to any of the registrars like Godaddy, Name and NameCheap among others. Preferred payment options are Credit/Debit Cards or through PayPal.

Tip : Before buying a domain, do Google up for coupon codes. You can purchase domains for cheaper rates using these codes. If you go for premium hosting (to be covered later), you may get a free domain.

2. Free Domain (Free for private use)

Free domains are generally used by upcoming bloggers and website owners. You can get yourself a free domain from co.cc or .tk (I prefer the 1st one). These domains are mostly free unless you want a premium domain name or want to use the domain for business purposes.

Tip : If you can afford $1, then you can get .info which is a TLD.

3. Subdomain (Free with hosting account)

When you register for a free host, you generally get a free domain. These ones should be avoided as you can easily get a free domain as mentioned above. Not much to say here.

Registering For A Host :

Now once you have the domain, you need to put the files that the visitors to your website can see. So you need a hosting for that matter. Now there are 2 types of hosts, Premium and free. Free hosts have a set of limitations in place which stop you from getting the maximum benefits. But since you are a beginner in this, I suggest you to stick to free ones for some time. When looking for a host, NEVER look at the bandwidth and the space given, but look for reliability. When I had just started blogging about a year back, I had made this mistake and my website was down for most of the time.

Good free hosts include x10hosting and freehostia. But before going for a host, ask your friends or Google for reviews about that host and issues regarding it. Once you sign up for the host, you get something called as cPanel. I suggest you to avoid hosts that give VistaPanel. After signing up for any of the hosts, follow the method mentioned below.

Adding Nameservers :

In simple words, I can define nameservers as the settings in the domain that show the domain the path to the hosting. Nameservers are generally in the format :

NS1.[YOURHOST].COM

NS2.[YOURHOST]COM

So suppose you use x10hosting, just use the following:

NS1.X10HOSTING.COM

NS2.X10HOSTING.COM

Some hosts have upto 4 nameservers but there is no problem if your host has just 2.

Where to add nameservers?

To add nameservers, login to the website from where you took your domain and go to edit nameservers.

If you have gone for a free domain (co.cc) then you should add your nameservers as mentioned below:

I have purchased my TLD’s from Name, so here is the screenshot for that :

Now that you are done editing the nameservers, we need to add the domain in the host. For that you need to login to your cPanel and click on addon domain.

Now login to the cPanel and click on Addon Domains and add your domain. After adding, we now have to add files to it.

Making A Website :

Now, this is the main step of the tutorial. After you have added the domain, we need to add files to the website. You have 2 options here, either code yourself or upload already coded websites (known as CMS). I suggest you go for Wordpress because it is easy to use and can be modded to any level. For experts, I suggest Joomla.

For adding Wordpress to your domain, there are 2 methods;

1-> Automatic

I suggest you use this method. Go to your cPanel and click on Fantastico Deluxe.

2-> Manual Method (If You Don’t Have Fantastico) :

In case your cPanel doesn’t have Fantastico, then you can use the manual method. In this method, you need to download Wordpress from here and and upload this inside the website directory in the File Manager. You will find File Manager in the cPanel.

You can follow this tutorial if you want to try the manual mode.

Done Setting Up! Now What?

Now that you have setup the domain, just login to your admin panel. The URL will be yourdomain.com/wp-admin. In this tutorial, I used Fantastico and this is the website I got. This is the admin login area. The website is now setup. Just login and start posting.

How To Enhance The Interface Of My Blog?

The basic blog is generally boring and you won’t get many raised eyebrows. So, the first thing you need is themes. Head on here and download whichever theme you like. Upload these themes to wp-content/themes in the File Manager. Other method is to directly get themes installed from the admin panel. For this, click on the Appearance tab and then on the Add New Themes sub-tab.

After the themes, there are some essential plugins you must have. Don’t worry about that, I have already simplified it for you. Just check out this post and download them all

There are many softwares available in the market to make your PC into a virtual machine with a completely new OS (Operating System) like VMware. But today, I will make a small post on how to create a virtual OS of the OS you are currently using without starting from a scratch. (It will be a snapshot and none of your data will be deleted.

Disk2VHD is a small little program that will help you to make a virtual operating system in just a few minutes. It will convert your entire PC into a Microsoft Virtual PC virtual machine. The catch is that it will only run on Microsoft Virtual PC but that’s not a major issue since it is free.

This program doesn’t require any installation, just double click and you are off. Due to this, you can also make a copy or a backup of this software on your pen drive for easy portability. Since it is using the snapshot feature, there is no risk in loosing your precious data and various PC boots and restarts. When you create a virtual drive, be sure to create it on a new partition where no OS has been installed. Even creating it on a external hard disk will do. The maximum capacity of the virtual drive is 127GB, so if you have a bigger hard disk, this program will not work in your case.

There are many benefits of using a virtual machine. First, in case you get a virus attack, you can just switch back to the earlier OS without any damages or data loss. Second, you can create a backup of your data for future uses. People who want to virtualize the computer just for testing may also use it.

As I am pampered with DVD service that delivers a flick daily to my house or whenever needed, I see about 20 movies a month. Due to that, I have seen many English comedy flicks and I want my readers to see them atleast once. (I guarantee that you won’t regret wasting your time on these).

The classic adventure started in the 1st part when the parents of a young teen left him at the house and the story follows till the 4th sequel where it is shown that his parents split up and then when at his father’s place, he averts a robbery (which is also done in the other parts ). Amazing acting by Kevin McAllister, it is surely worth a watch. If you do have small ones at home, you are sure to get a headache due to their constant non-stop laughing.

9-> Bruce Almighty

Bruce Nolan, a TV reporter is not happy about anything in his life, whether it be his popularity, his job or be his girlfriend. As he constantly complains to god, God responds and gives him the divine powers and challenges him to control the world. Amazing acting, storyline and a muswatch by the whole family.

8-> Airplane

There are hardly any movies that are as good as this one. What gives this replay value is the fact that is has so many funny lines, comments, and situations. It’s hard to catch them the first time, but with every replay you notice something new or old jokes seem funny in a different way. Of course Leslie Nielsen is plain hilarious, just like his appearances in The Naked Gun series. His jokes are very subtle and sometimes they make you think about the comment before you really understand the joke. To much play on words, and double meanings, but it’s all in good humor.

7-> Meet The Parents

One of my personal favorites in this list. One of the funniest comedies of all times, jokes are included everywhere, right from the Ben Stiller’s name, Gaylord Focker The jokes here are simply the best, the dialogues are great. If you don’t watch this film, you are definitely missing something great. Contains a lot of adult jokes which are hell lotta funny. Wonderful to see Robert De Niro in a comedy roll after a series of straight thriller types. This film is packed with slick gags, hilarious scenes and it has a really fun story; it’s a comedy film that you don’t want to miss.

6-> Meet The Fockers

Should have really been rated above ‘Parents’ because it isn’t better than it. But since it is a sequel, I want you’ll to see ‘Meet The Parents’ before ‘Fockers’. In the continuation from the earlier part, it is shown that Robert De Niro finally accepts the marriage but wants to meet the parents of Gaylord Focker. The caper continues when it is shown that Focker’s mother is a sex therapist while his father is unemployed. When the 2 parents meet each other, they come to know that each lives in purely different worlds with different mindsets. Full of adult jokes, it is another must watch on the list. (Watch out for Ben’s and Robert’s mind blowing acting).

5-> Tommy Boy

Tommy Boy will make your stomach ache. Not because of bad popcorns but due to uncontrollable laughter. This movie is a bit on the serious side too. I regard this as Late Chris Farley best performance ever. The pairing of Chris Farley and David Spade truly rocks. Tommy is shown as a dumb-witted guy who just graduates from his university. Coming home, he gets a job in his fathers Callahan Motors, the job in which he has no knowledge. When Big Tommy dies, it is all upto save the company from getting sold. Check it out guys

4-> American Pie Series (1,2,3,4,5,6)

No words can be described for this. Simply the best series of adult comedies ever produced. When I was seeing the movie, I laughed so hard that I spit out the cold drink I was having  This has classic written all over it, I think it’s safe to say that anyone that was involved with this movie has a great career now because of it. American pie has an absolute all star cast led by the great Jason Biggs. Anyone who enjoys comedy, teen comedy must see this movie! honestly you need to watch more movies if you haven’t seen this one!

3-> The Hangover

Bachelor’s party can’t get any better than this. 4 men go to Las Vegas to celebrate the so-to-happen marriage of one of them. During the late night drinking binge, one of them ends up marrying, stealing a Tiger from Mike Tyson’s palace and what not. Great one to watch with your friends.

2-> Black Sheep

Though the name contains ‘Black’, it is an EVEGREEN CLASSIC. You watch it million times, you will laugh a million times, that too for the same great jokes. Brings the pair of Chris Farley and David Spade back together. Having seen about 50+ times, I am not yet bored of this. Many of the scenes are of the Oscar material. Just watch and enjoy it.

1-> Borat – Cultural Learning Of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhastan

Seen it about 12-15 times. In fact, the DVD guy called me twice to ask why it was not returned. Just a fantastic comedy. The dialouges – awesome. The characters – awesome. The film – Awesome!!! The Kazakh national anthem made by Borat is the best part of the movie.  Should have won the comedy of the century, here are some of the great dialogues of the movie (In pure kazakh accent which is great) :

Borat: He is my neighbor Nursultan Tuliagby. He is pain in my assholes. I get a window from a glass, he must get a window from a glass. I get a step, he must get a step. I get a clock radio, he cannot afford. Great success!

Wordpress is used by people from different levels and sectors. Personally, I think it the best way to create a site. Just upload the files, create a database and you are ready to roll, er, I mean blog The following list of plugins is the best according to my usage. If anyone has any issues with them, ask me and I would love to help you’ll out. The top 10 plugins are in RANDOM ORDER.

1. Akismet

Akismet is a plugin that included by default in the Wordpress blog files you download. It automatically scans every comment that is generated and categorises it into spam if it feels so. I am using it since 1 year and 99.9% of the comments that it automatically distinguished as spam were really spam. Thanks to Wordpress for such an amazing plugin.

2. SexyBookmarks

SexyBookmarks is a plugin that places itself on the page of your posts. Suppose the reader of your blog likes your post, SexyBookmarks allows him to spread it on Social Networking sites like Twitter, Digg, Technorati, Delicious among many others. Also, it has a clean and sophisticated look. It ads a cute looking signature type text on the top saying ‘Sharing is Caring’ or ‘Sharing is Sexy’.

3. Google Analyticator

Google Analyticator is a small widget that allows the site owner/admin add the necessary Analytics javascript code to enable Google Analytics. Google Analytics is definitely better than all other free stat counters just because they give you amazing facts about the visitors that visited your site that will help you build your site.

4. Google XML Sitemaps

This plugin generates a sitemap so that a search engine will find the links of your posts easily and add it to their search engine. This is recommended because generally websites get their traffic from search engines.

5. Limit Posts

This is a sort of trick to make more page views on your site. If you put the whole post on the front page, then the visitor reads it an then leaves your site. But if you just give a summary of your posts, it makes the reader more curious to read which ultimately gives you more traffic. I am using it on the home page so as to give it a neater and professional look.

6. Add To Any : Subscribe Button

The following plugin gives the users to subscribe to your blog in many ways like getting updated through Google, mail, Windows live, feeds and the list continues. A must download plugin for every site that needs frequent visitors.

7. Similar Posts

In simple words, this plugin shows a list of posts that match the post the user is currently seeing. In complex, it scans the common words from all the posts, the tags, their categories, and shows the related posts.

8. Wordpress Database Backup (Wordpress DB Backup)

Backing up your site is as important as backing up your PC. You never know when you may do some wrong setting that may end up blowing your site up. This is the best plugin if you hate taking up backups manually through PHP MyAdmin in your cPanel. Just set up this plugin once and you will never find the need of manually backing up again. It will send you a mail or download to your desktop according to your preferences.

9. Ultimate Tag Warrior

Tags are one of the most important things of your post. It helps you in SEO and it may be the deciding factor on getting traffic. This plugin is one of the best tools for getting automatic genuine traffic.

10. WP Cumulus

One of the best plugins available on Wordpress is WP Cumulus. This plugin is a flash based one which rotates the tags used in your posts in a cloud format. Easy to use and looks amazing. One of the top recommended plugins.

Internet Explorer (IE) is the king of all browsers. It has an amazing market share of around 70% which should be highly appriciated because it has stood through all kinds of bad weather. But due to the rise of browsers like Chrome and Firefox, regular clients are slowly but steadily shifting from IE to these browsers. So if Microsoft has to overcome this threat, they must sure do serious changes to their browser. Here are a few of my own suggestions :

1. Change the appearence : Microsoft is sticking to the same old look of its which should be urgently improved. Users should get the rights to alter the look by adding themes, plugins and other widgets. Firefox (FF) is one of the browsers that has a good set of themes. Also, IE should launch icon packs so that the common users will get a change. In one sentence, it is called “Bad CSS Rendering”.

2. Allow Addons : This is the main reason why people choose FF over IE, addons. They make you feel you are into another world just by these plugins. As on this day, there are more than 5000 plugins/addons in every gerne. These plugins can go simple things from allowing you to use Javascripts to knowing where the site is hosted. It makes the best better. The plugin that helps the most are those that block all ads from a website so that you get one of the features of a premium member.

3. Allowing GreaseMonkey : There are more than 50000 scripts on the whole internet that allow you to do almost anything. I personally use around 10 of these scripts for Orkut and personal use and once you start using it, you will never feel like quitting that browser.

4. Clean And Simple : Internet Explorer and Firefox both sometimes seem like the inside view of the pilot’s cabin. Full of icons on the task-bar. Nah, nobody will prefer that unless he is a net nerd and uses all of them daily. I would love the clean look of Google Chrome and so would you. It just seems like a no-nonsense browser with just a tab to type URL and one for switching tabs.

5. Speed : Speed is the main reasons why people normally change their ISP’s. But they don’t know that they might be suffering just because they are using Internet Explorer. Come on, there would be nobody in this whole world who would not need better speeds. Man is surely greedy, atleast for speed isssues. In today’s market, Safari and Opera have the top place for speed, Google comes second (though the speed while downloading still sucks), then comes IE and last FF.

6. Uninstall IE : This is a biased world and IE further-more proves it. 95% of the world uses Microsoft and IE comes pre-installed to them. They generally start using it and then never shift from it, even if they like other browsers. So, this is the main reason why IE is ruling the browser war. I sincerely hope Microsoft gives an option to uninstall ASAP so that I can have a peace of mind atleast.

If any Mircosoft employee is reading this, I sicerely request you to please either add the 1st 5 of the above listed features or if it is not possible, then the 6th one. Also, check out this graph I found on the net. If any Mozilla guy is reading this, please reduce the booting time because not anyone has a PC with 4GB RAM. Peace to all.

Google has products in almost every range, from operating systems (for mobiles and PC version is soon to come) to to search engines where the hold the monopoly. But the messenger from the Google’s own stable has not really kept up to Google’s reputation of good products. The desktop version doesn’t support smileys, has a slow speed for sending files and the list continues. 6. Twitter : Invite the famous micro-blogger Twitter to your Gtalk by adding it’s bot twitter@twitter.com. Now whenever you IM this friend, he will automatically post it on Twitter.

7. Set Task Reminders : If you need to remember something really important, just add timer to your Twitter’s friend list and then add xpenserbot@gmail.com. Now if you want a reminder after 30 minutes to buy chicken, just enter “d timer 30 buy fresh chicken from mart”

8. Xpenser : With Xpenser, you can record your expenses on the go. Suppose you donated $30 to Techaddicts.in, send a message like Donate $30 to Techaddicts and that will be put on your online spreadsheet which you can access later. Add him at xpenserbot@gmail.com

I have got many complaints from friends and other people online that Internet Explorer is very slow. So if you are one of those frustrated guys out there, just follow the following tweak and who knows, it might make up your mind from not shifting to another browser.

Open RUN (XP users have the option in the Start Menu, Vista users just type RUN in the search) and type REGEDIT in the box provided.

Now navigate to the following directory : HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Restrictions

Create A New DWORD Value Names ‘x’ (See Complete List Of Values Of ‘x’ Below) And Modify Its Value To 1 To Enable It And 0 To Disable It.

NoBrowserClose:Disable The Option Of OF Closing IE.
NoBrowserContextMenu:Disable Right-Click Context Menu.
NoBrowserOptions:Disable The Tools/Internet Options Menu.
NobrowserSaveAs:Disable The Abilty To Save As.
NoFavourites:Disable The Favourites.
NoFileNew:Disable The File/New Command.
NoFileOpen:Disable The File/Open Command.
NoFindFiles:Disable The Find Files Command.
NoSelectDownloadDir:Disable The Option Of Selecting A Download Directory.
NoTheatere Mode:Disable The Full Screen View Option.
